This program will give ammonia plant operators, site maintenance staff and other employees working closely with ammonia a good understanding on ammonia.
The half day ammonia awareness training session will give ammonia plant operators, site maintenance staff and other employees working closely with ammonia a good understanding on ammonia.
It will provide participants the necessary information to work safely in an environment that has ammonia and provide them with the know-how of how to handle ammonia.
All participants will gain an understanding on ammonia safety theory, the different applications ammonia is used in, ammonia first aid (do’s and don’ts), review MSDS ammonia components, exposure limits and concentration levels and the effect on life, safety equipment and personal protection, code of practice, go through some case studies.
The training will be capped off with a demonstration in the ammonia plant, pointing out the main isolation points required to be shut in certain situations. If site conditions allow a controlled demonstration leak of liquid and vapour can be carried out.
If required site specific procedures that may already exist can be made part of this training program.
This training session will incorporate the updated Australian standard for refrigerating systems AS5149.
At the end of this training the participants should have gained a full understand of ammonia and its characteristics, what to do in an emergency situation, what PPE is required in what situation, when is it safe to enter a plant room and when not, how to shut down the plant safely in the event of an emergency and what maintenance requirements to ensure safety.
